Fall 2023
An advanced graphic design class with emphasis on typography, hierarchy, and legibility.
The class focused on multiple mediums to further expand my knowledge of design.
PROJECT: Font Development
Software Utilized: Procreate, Illustrator, FontLab
I explored forms of several fonts that I liked, found design styles I wanted to emulate, and then created a custom font, RetroAura. I hand-drew letters in procreate, traced them in illustrator, and created a custom font in FontLab. Deliverables included font files as well as a font specimen poster, and a creative design including the font.
PROJECT: Product Design
Software Utilized: Illustrator, Photoshop
I was given the prompt to create a halloween themed energy drink design. I designed the Elixr of Wakefulness, themed around wizardry and other magic tomfoolery. I created a comp in Illustrator, made mockups in Photoshop, and then created a comp in Illustrator as a final asset. I explored brand design as well as standardized information in the nutrition facts label.
PROJECT: Zine Design
Software Utilized: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, ChatGPT
In this project, I was to create a magazine design based on a typographic legend. I chose Paul Renner, and wrote about Futura. Assets were prepared in Illustrator and Photoshop, arranged in InDesign, and copy was created using ChatGPT. I included a draft as well as the final to showcase my work. I explored grid systems, type formatting, and the joys of working with InDesign. IYKYK ;)
PROJECT: Website Creation
Software Utilized: Photoshop, Dreamweaver
In the final project, I created a brand design and website for a coffee shop. I created Encore Coffee Lounge, and crafted a logotype and design guidelines. Using Dreamweaver, I created three HTML and CSS pages, utilizing images from Adobe Stock resized in Photoshop. I pushed myself with this project as I typically don't work with web-based projects. I learned some advanced HTML/CSS techniques, and also gained more experience with creating branding. The HTML site is hosted internally, so I included screenshots instead.
